Town Funk Summer Block Party

On Saturday, June 5th, 2010, the Community Rejuvenation Project is partnering with Roots and Branches plus othere local organizations to unveil four new murals with themes based in local music and culture from 12 - 5 PM at the intersection of 19th St. and Park Blvd. The Summer Block Party will feature a Michael Jackson tribute by DJ Zeph honoring the anniversary of his death. Local Funktown musicians Rocker T and Jern Eye wiil perform along with Sabac Red of Non-Phixion, Virtuous, Lyric, youth from Oakland High's Beats Rhymes and Life Film Project and the winner of their upcoming talent show. Controlling the tempo will be DJ Basta, the Roots and Branches crew, and DJ Smokestaxx with appearances by Baby Champ and the Scrapper Bike Team. "This event will kick off the series of summer block parties that Roots and Branches and the Community Rejuvenation Project will be putting on regularly this year," says Nick Basta, founder of Roots and Branches.
